Sports Tours in Bratislava

The quaintly picture perfect city of Bratislava is one of the youngest capital cities in Europe. Experts will tell you that during its time the Slovakian capital has been named Pressburg or Pozsony while becoming one of the most important cities in the one-time Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Bratislava is a true melting pot of a multitude of nations and nationalities, all of whom live together in peace and tranquility. There is a saying that a true 'Pressburgian' speaks four languages: Slovak, German, Hungarian and Mishmash. Even as recently as the 1980s you might hear how older Pressburgians in the street would say two words in German, two in Hungarian and two in Slovak all in the space of one sentence. That is what is meant by "mishmash."

Nowadays Bratislava is experiencing a boom once more. Buildings are popping up, deals being made, people are studying, and everything is on the move. Experts regard it as one of the most dynamically developing and most prospective regions in Europe.

It welcomes tourists, business people, and investors, who are attracted to this blooming city and its lively atmosphere. There are many cities in Europe that can boast their own special unique charm, and Bratislava is definitely one of them.

Bratislava, home to over 400,000 citizens is located downstream from the Austrian gem of Vienna. A River cruise up the River to Vienna is highly recommended. Other, more adrenaline related activities are readily and affordably available. White Water Rafting, Go-Karting and Quad Biking are just a few.

The city is a booming touring destination. Located about a half days drive from Prague via Brno, Bratislava is catching the original Eastern European destination quickly. As more budget airlines offer routes to the Slovak capital, passengers grow as a result.

We recommend that you head to the 'Corso' part of the town at night. This is where the city comes to life after hours. Down here, you can expect to pay around £1 for a pint or around £2.00 for a cocktail.

During the summer months, the streets and squares come alive with music from the numerous outdoor concerts. As the music plays, the busy bars spill out onto the street in a way that creates a cracking evening atmosphere.

Although not renowned for sporting prowess, the country will make up for it with their generous post match hospitality. You will struggle to find quality Rugby opposition here, but there is a growing tradition of the game, especially as the good word is spread by touring teams from the UK and Ireland.

The Slovakian national Rugby side, played their first international match in 2006. They played Monaco, a team ranked 77th in the world, and lost 6-0. In May 2007, Slovakia pushed Greece all the way, but lost 20-17 in Athens. The Slovakian team are not ranked by the IRB, to earn this; they must beat an IRB Ranked team.

As with anywhere in Eastern Europe, Football is played everywhere. Every park, field and space is filled with young kids playing the game trying to become a Slovak Superstar.
