Sports Tours in Rotterdam

Despite the fact that the city was all but flattened in WWII, Rotterdam is a city that thrusts its heritage and what history it has left on every visitor in town, and in a way, it sort of works.

Rotterdam is the ideal place to compete in the numerous Easter Football and Rugby Tournaments in Holland & Belgium. Within an hour, you have a huge number of sporting opportunities available.

The city itself, compact and interesting has enough in the way of evening entertainent for children and adults to make it an essential option for a Dutch Tour.

Rotterdam is home to the biggest shipping port in Europe, and it is this nautical tradition that is held throughout the city. On initial inspection, you would be forgiven to think that the city is a touch on the ugly side, a little grey, and a bit industrial. However, once you see it from the inside, we're sure you, like we did, will want to scratch a little deeper.

As with a lot of the cities in Holland, Rotterdam is very bicycle friendly, in fact, if you have an hour, the 'Rondje' route is well signposted and offers visitors a dissected route through the city.

Rotterdam doesn't have a city centre in the common sense. Re-built over the past fifty years, you have a harbour, a shopping district, a transport hub and the market. Even then, there are shops near the harbour, markets in the shopping district...you get the picture!

Rotterdam certainly has a big city feeling about it where Den Haag and Gent don't. The nightlife is certainly more focused on late night dance music than late opening beer halls, and this is maybe more for older groups than kids.

Where will we stay?

Our accommodation in Rotterdam is our favourite across Europe. A brand new Hostel built overlooking the harbour, just minutes from the shopping district, bars, clubs and central areas of Rotterdam. What's more, this has to be the quirkiest hostel in Europe - it is like Mr Ikea designed this after a night in an Amsterdam Cafe! The photo's above will explain more.

How do we get to Rotterdam?

Rotterdam is easily accessible from both north and south in the UK. From Newcastle, an entertaining overnight ferry journey to Amsterdam leaves a 1 hour journey down into Rotterdam. Our excellent relationship with DFDS Seaways gives us very low prices on this route. Similarly, as DFDS have taken over Norfolk Line, the Dover to Dunkirk route is equally excellent. A 2 Hour cruise is followed by a 90 minute jaunt up to the Netherlands which can have you in the city by late-afternoon from anywhere south of Birmingham.

Rotterdam is perfect for
