Sports Tours in Galway

There is a saying in Ireland, that 'the west, is best.' Modestly put, and far easier on the ear when spoken in a Galwegian accent, we must admit to agree.

When you walk into Galway and the surrounding Connaught countryside, you get a feeling that you have arrived in the real Ireland. This is generally highlighted for groups arriving in the west after a stay in Dublin. Throughout day and night, the city seems to have an up-beat violin-led soundtrack, 'folk' are a lot friendlier, and the Guinness flows like water.

A Tour to Galway is an excuse to run the batteries flat on your camera. No visit would be complete without a jaunt up to the hills of Connemara before an evening fixture in Clifden or a ferry cruise along the feet of the majestic Cliffs of Moher. An insistent pub-crawl back to Galway is up there with the best days out on any of our tours within Europe.

Then theres a day at the Ballybrit Races, tickets to a GAA or Hurling Match, a night at the Dogs, or tickets to see Connaught in the Celtic League.

Superb for both Cricket and Rugby Tours, and ideal as a standalone destination or an integral part of a multi-stop tour of Ireland, Galway will always be near the top of our list of recommendations.

Traditionally a small fishing village, Galway is the fastest growing city in Ireland, with its population booming over recent generations. The narrow, winding streets are laced with vibrant pubs, old stone shop fronts and excellent restaurants. The town is renowned for its music and oyster festivals when the atmosphere gets turned up a notch or two.

We have planned fixtures in the past with clubs across Connaught, including the All Ireland Division One club Galwegians RFC whose ground is a stones throw from your accommodation. Cricket has a small stronghold in Galway, with a club side and university side attracting many touring sides each season.

You will stay at an excellent Hostel just a short walk from Eyre Square - the city centre. Groups will be accommodated in 4's, 6's & 8's, with twins and triple available for coaches, parents and older members of the party. A hearty Irish Breakfast will be served each morning just a few doors down the street.

Other ventures include tickets to watch Connaught in the Celtic League, admission into Galway Races or how about a night at the Dogs?

Getting to Galway is simple. Flights into Galway itself and nearby Knock are readily available from most areas in the UK. However, flying into Dublin is an option, with a 3 hour drive west to the city. Catching the ferry from Holyhead is another option, and one that Bolton-by-Bowland CC undertook during their Galway Tour in 2010.

Cricket Tours in Galway

Cricket in West Ireland is concentrated to Galway. With a handful of teams in the local area flying the Cricket Flag, it is a great place to play Cricket on Tour. Combine an evening Twenty20 match with something a little longer during the day, and you have a corker.

Just a quick note to say thank you for your efforts in organising the tour.

Everything you sorted worked to a tee, the opposition were competitive, the cricket facilities were better than anticipated and Galway managed to tip us upside down every night.

The "craic" was better than our cricket but all things considered we had a great tour, thank you for your efforts we will use you again, recommending Sky High Sports to all and sundry.
