Sports Tours in Tuscany

The central Italian province of Tuscany is one of our newest and most exciting destinations. The area encapsulates some of the highlights of Italy, and is reputedly the best place in Italy for wine, food and believe it or not, magic water.

Options in the province are endless. If you are after a city slicker tour, we couldn't recommend Siena highly enough. Often overshadowed by the artists paradise that is Florence in northern Tuscany, Siena is pure, less spoilt and dare we say it, much more Italian. That's not to say a day trip to the home of Michelangelo's David and the Uffizi gallery isn't worth it!

Medieval Siena is centred on the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, the annual venue of one of Italy's iconic horse races, the Palio. Held in August, ten of the cities seventeen districts enters a jockey decked out in their proud colours, to ride a horse around the city's square amidst the thousands of impassioned spectators displaying all the tradition and pomp and circumstance you could wish to see.

The winner receives a hero's welcome and in time, will become the stuff of legend. As well as the stunning square, which is dominated by the renaissance-esque Public Palace, the city is home to a stunning Cathedral. When planned, the Duomo was supposed to be the grandest Cathedral of them all. However, during the building, the city ran out of money, and had to finish it prematurely, although still stunning, it explains the rather random looking gable-end located around 50m to the west of the building!

The rural delights of Tuscany

Away from the cities, Tuscany is home to three of Italy's most reputed wine regions. Montepulciano, Montalcino and of course Chianti are all located across the southern reaches of the province. The town of Montepulciano is one of the settings for the cult-film series Twilight. The medieval, hill-top setting is one of the stunning sights of the country. The streets are lined with wine-producers, wine bars and cracking restaurants. The town looks over the rolling Tuscan countryside laden with vino laden vines, small forests and picturesque villages.

The Sport

The destination is suited to groups looking to get to grips with Italian culture. Sport is sparse in the area away from the cities, but scratch the surface and there is a myriad of ex-pat influenced cricket teams, amateur football sides and the odd Rugby Club.

An itinerary can be as busy as you like. As well as the sport, we can arrange tours around Vine yards, food-tasting trips to the villages, city tours in Florence and Siena, a trip out to the western coast, or something a little more exciting on the water sports paradise of Lake Trasimeno.

As the options are many, we will be happy to recommend the correct base camp for your group depending on your request and preferences.
