The Buller Rugby Union is one the smallest of the six regions that make up the Canterbury Crusaders Super 14 franchise. Responsible for 1000 players in the north-west area of the south island, the union was founded way back in 1894.

The port town of Westport and home of the Buller Union, is the largest centre of the Northern West Coast and the perfect starting point for exploring the region's heritage and scenery.

Westport is steeped in history; a visit to Coaltown Museum will help you imagine life as it was for New Zealand's pioneering coal miners as you walk through a simulated underground coal mine. Nature lovers can visit the Cape Foulwind Seal Colony, and the nearby coastal walkway offers views of the magnificent West Coast sunsets.

Underworld Rafting is the premier activity in the area for which the organisers have developed an international reputation. Underworld-Rafting is a very special adventure where you are taken by Rainforest-Train to explore one of NZ's largest caves. The upper levels are filled with awe-inspiring formations while the lower levels have a lake on which you float lit with the most amazing galaxies of GlowWorms. The journey is complete having fun bouncing down the Nile River Rapids.
