f you were to take a poll, many would include Lisbon on their list of favourite places. It's small yet immensely charming. Lisbon is a picturesque port city, characterized by romantic cobblestone streets, mosaic sidewalks, rolling hills and pastel houses.

It's also a diverse city, blending a range of cultures. The oldest part of the city, the Alfama quarter, still retains its medieval feel. Lisbon is not stuck in the past however. It hosted the grand Expo '98 and was named European City of Culture in 1994.

Visitors can stroll through narrow streets to art nouveau cafés, enjoy a scenic ride on an antique wooden streetcar, or take a steep ride up to Bairro Alto in a turn-of-the-century street elevator. There is lots to do and see in this European capital.

If there is a hot bed of Portuguese Rugby, then Lisbon it is. The game is enjoying a boom following the countries gallant display against the World's best in 2007, with many children taking up the game as an alternative to the number one sport, Football.

The Portuguese are keen to learn, and adamant about becoming a Rugby nation. The more than credible performances of the national 7's team on the international circuit has led to greater domestic recognition. With the slow demise of other second tier European nations such as Holland and Spain, Portugal are definitely ones to watch out for in the future.

With numerous booming clubs in the Lisbon area, prepare for a cracking tour match, equalled only by the reception you'll receive in the clubhouse after the game.
