Sports Tours in The Algarve

The Algarve in Portugal has long been popular with sun-seeking tourists from the United Kingdom, and after you spend a few days down there, you will see why it is as popular as ever.

The suave and debonair reaches of Vilamoura contrast well with the open-all-night party town of Albufeira to offer both ends of the tourist scale plenty to go at.

The Highlights of a tour to The Algarve

Other bars to look out for include The Irish Cabin, an Irish Bar to rival any - good prices and excellent live music every night until around 3am; Akvavit is a Nautical bar with Swedish origins, on the expensive side, but well worth looking at during the day time for their lunchtime specials. Most bars stay open until the morning hours, but if it is a nightclub your after, then head out to the Vilamoura Casino, the home of the Black-Jacks nightclub. One of the few places to be filled with countless local's dancing the night away to some of the county's top DJ's amidst light shows and special effects.

For more in-expensive food and drink, head away from the harbour, and you'll find some chirpy little sports bars that will look after you for as long as you wish.

The town is a real playground, you could fill your days and nights with Deep Sea Shark Fishing, Banana-boats, sunset cruises, snorkelling, mountain biking, highly recommended water park trips and even foam parties. All are available to book through ourselves or at the bustling market corner on the Marina.

A visit to Albufeira is a different trip altogether than a period in Vilamoura. Centred on the bar street in Montechoro, the town is a hive of alcohol-fuelled madness long after bed-time. About 2km in length, 'The Strip' is full of cheap bars, Karaoke, nightclubs, strip bars and kebab shops. It is very much an 18-30 destination rather than a Saga one. This being said, for student groups and senior teams alike, there is an immense amount of fun to be had.

Our recommended trip out here is definitely to the Bull-Ring at the top of the town for some traditional Portuguese Bull Fighting. Not for the faint hearted, the evening is a real insight into the pomp, circumstances and traditions of the Portuguese culture.

To gain escape from the party-town, head up to the Old Town. Evidence of the origins of Albufeira as a quaint fishing village are still apparent here with charming intertwining streets, traditional restaurants and quirky souvenir shops. From the Old-Town, you can access the town's premier beach, Praia do Peneco where you will find recluse under a parasol or more excitement on one of the many water sports available.

Rugby Tours to the Algarve

The Algarve is by no means a Rugby heartland. Regular visits from professional and international outfits pays homage to the excellent training camp venues made popular by the excellent off-season climate, but the area has plenty to offer the amateur, club and student game. Both RFC Loule and Vilamoura RFC have a strong ex-pat influence and make up the majority of their fixture card against touring teams from across Europe.

Youth Football Tours to The Algarve

The sport is a religion in the country. Sporting Lisbon and Porto are passionately followed by supporters from across the country. Many shops are stuffed full with replica shirts and merchandise. It is not surprising that the 'Brazilians of Europe' boast numerous footballing teams in every village and town across the country. Prepare to be tested, as the quality of the youth football in particular is extremely high.

Cricket Tours to the Algarve

The Algarve was our original Obscure Cricket Destination, first toured by Wimbledon CC in 2010, the area has a small number of ex-pat Cricket Clubs who base their seasonal calendars around the hosting of touring teams from across the UK. The relaxed shores of Vilamoura are excellent for groups made up of young and old, fitting in with the Cricket Club DNA perfectly.

Wimbledon CC go on tour every year.  This year Sky High Sports organised our tour to Vilamoura.  What a classy place - we drank beer watching over the super yachts, ate fish gazing upon the marina evening life and partied till 4am each day.  We quickly remembered why we shouldn't drink too much before a game of Cricket in 35 degree heat !!

Our apartments were within 100 yards of the Marina, within 50 yards of every restaurant in town and just a short stagger from the bars and nightclubs that make the town famous.

Well done to Richie for sorting out our tour.  I hope the maids in the apartments know what to do with the bicycle we left in the bath.

"Sky High Sports really do know how to organise and deliver a memorable tour.

The organisation and information we were given about 'whats hot and what's not' in Vilamoura was outstanding, we met some fantastic people and went to events such as the local bull fight which was outstanding.

The overall service and support that we received from Sky High Sports was awesome, and the trip was worth every penny. Before the trip the lads and I decided that we wanted somewhere that was hot and most of all we wanted it organised properly, and this was certainly achieved by Richie and his team.

The boys and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sky High Sports for all your help and guidance, and we look forward to booking with you again next year."
