Sports Tours in The Scottish Borders

The Scottish Border region is one of our favourite Rugby destinations. Set amongst one of Britain's most historic regions, the borders is one of World Rugby's talent hotspots and more traditional touring venues.

Shockingly left behind by the onset of professionalism, the teams of the borders were a match for any club side prior to the money men opening their briefcases in the mid-1990's.

Teams from Hawick, Jedburgh, Galashiels, Kelso and Melrose used to strike fear into opposition minds, and any opportunity to get their hands (or studs) on a team of Sassenachs (Englishmen) was well received.

Players from the region read like a who's who of Scottish and British Lions legends - John Jeffrey, Colin Deans, Alan Tomes, Gary Armstrong, Doddie Weir, Alan Tait, Jim Telfer amongst others are among the most respected Rugby Players of all time.

Tour Tale

During a recent tour to England and Scotland, The Woodlands RFC U18's from Texas visited the Scottish Borders. They played a game at the famous Mansfield Park ground against a Hawick XV made up of players from Hawick Wanderers and Hawick PSA - the first time they have ever joined forces. The Americans spent an afternoon Curling in Kelso with coaching from members of England's Curling team, before continuing north to Edinburgh.

Where will we stay?

You will be based in Melrose, just a stone's throw from Greenyards, the ancient home of the oldest 7-a-side competition in the world. The charmingly small town thrives on tourism and well used to Rugby visitors from the south. Centred between the ancient Abbey ruins and the traditional Market Square, the town will be a great central point to play matches at nearby Gala,' Selkirk or Kelso.

Will we be kept busy?

We recommend a busy itinerary during your weekend in the borders. There is plenty to keep you busy in the nearby countryside. Gorge Walking, Rafting, Canoeing, Caber Tossing, and Haggis Tossing are just some of our recommendations.

What about the evening's?

In the evening, the pubs and restaurants of Melrose are true Rugby venues offering a friendly welcome and great hospitality. For those looking for nightlife and hangovers, this maybe isn't for you, but for schools, youth groups and vets teams, the Borders would be one of our highest recommendations.

Rugby Tours to the Scottish Borders

Rugby in the Borders is comparable to southern France, south-western England and south Wales as one of British Rugby's true hot-beds. Rugby Tradition and History is in abundance. A magnificent place to play and a key part of any Rugby education.

This past nine days has been tremendous. We have achieved everything we wanted to accomplish. We didn't set out to come to Scotland and bounce around and play rugby now and then, we wanted a full package where the girls had Rugby, Activities, Scottish Culture and Heritage and everything has fit quite nicely.

The Rugby Experience has been more than we could have asked for. We cannot complain about any of the Rugby parts of the tour. The games we have played, the paces we have practised and the coaching from Pro Players has been fantastic.

To come over here and have that experience, especially from the girls perspective has been fantastic.

From the start, we really liked the fluidity of working with Sky High Sports. Nothing was set in stone, and as time went on the package developed and your recommendations and ideas made it a perfect Scottish Experience.
