Hamilton Hornets Tour to England & Wales

posted on Monday, 03 September 12

Hamilton Hornets U19 from Ontario, Canada, first contacted Sky High Sports about a tour to Wales and England in early 2011. From the outset, the budget for the tour was the important factor in getting the tour off the ground.

We arranged a 12-day tour that strictly kept to the Hornets budget without losing the quality of a great tour.

We would like to pass our thanks to Devizes RFC in Wiltshire and Crymych RFC in West Wales who hosted the Canadian Tourists on respective 2-night billets. This is a fantastic touring tradition and while there are often obstacles to overcome, it is a tradition we are always keen to arrange for our touring teams.

The touring side spent the majority of the tour in Cardiff, a superb Rugby city, and a great place to stay on a budget. From sightseeing to late-night swimming in the River Taff, it was great to see the Hamilton team enjoy their stay.

Fixtures with Pentyrch RFC and Llandaff RFC in the Cardiff area were complimented by a training day at Bath Rugby, a tour of the Millennium Stadium, Paintballing and tickets to watch Bath Rugby play Cardiff Blues in a pre-season match at the iconic Recreation Ground stadium.

We had a great time. Thanks for all your hard work, it was a great tour. Some of the guys are still having withdrawal problems! The boys can't wait to host the Crymych RFC team back here in Canada.

We hard to work really hard to raise funds for the tour. We couldn't have done the tour without your help in keeping the tour to our budget.

Alton RFC Tour to Wiltshire

posted on Monday, 30 April 12

Alton RFC U14 travelled to Wiltshire in April for their 2012 Tour. The weekend was subject to some servere rainfall, but due to the great work by the fixture hosts at Frome RFC and Avonvale RFC, the scheduled games went ahead, and the Alton team had a great weekend.

We were impressed with the efficiency of Sky High Sports from our first point of contact. All details were taken into consideration, and the whole tour - from the accommodation through to the games and the entertainment in the spare time was planned and executed well. The boys and parents all enjoyed themselves immensely - and we would not hesitate in recommending working with Richie for your own club.

Abbey Park on Tour in England

posted on Thursday, 19 April 12

Abbey Park High School from Oakville, Ontario toured London, Oxford and Bath in April 2012. After contacting us in late 2011, time was short to plan the tour. But, with a fantastic amount of enthusiasm from Coach Heather Weston, we managed to plan an excellent tour that took in three of England's gem cities and gave the team a Rugby Experience to remember.

We were originally working with a firm in Canada whom we came very close to booking with. However, one of our girls' Dad's had met with Richie from Sky High Sports in Oakville last summer and made contact. Instantly, Richie provided us with a quotation that was several hundred dollars cheaper for a longer and more inclusive tour.

I can honestly say, the tour itself has gone beyond our expectations. The support of the Sky High Sports staff has been incredible. The girls have had a memorable time.

The accommodation in all three cities were perfect for our group, the locations enabled us to get the most out of each base.

Finally, the Rugby Experience of the tour has been exceptional. Our fixtures, training venues and guest coaching sessions at Oxford University and Bath Rugby Club got the girls learning a whole lot.

I cannot thank you enough and would highly recommend Sky High Sports to any team looking to travel to the UK on tour.

Sarnia Saints Tour to Central Europe

posted on Thursday, 23 August 12

Sarnia Saints, from Ontario, Canada, spent 11 days visiting our three favourite tour bases in Central Europe - Gent in Belgium, Cologne in Germany and Amsterdam.

With two wins from three games, plenty party-time, white-water rafting, a World War One Battlefield Tour & a visit to a super Belgian Brewery, the tour was action packed, full of fun, and a great success.

Tour Manager Craig McKenzie takes up the story.

Overall I was happy with the tour and the arrangements. I was a little concerned that with the number of bus transfers we were to have that there may be some issues but this was not the case.  The busses all arrived on or before schedule and all the drivers were great.

I can't say enough about our guide, Ian who did our World War One Battlefield Tour day.  It would not have been the same without having him there.  Many of the boys have commented on how much they appreciated that day and his input was certainly a large factor.  My only regret is that I did not tip him for his time!

The accomodations in Ghent were nice!  Both locations in Ghent and Colonge were great. All of our accomodations were close to trams or rail line so that was nice.

As far as the fixtures went...Ghent was wonderful.  One of their players was a great host meeting us on our first day and showing us about town.  The Ghent Club showed us wonderful hospitality.  It was a good match up for us, they were young and fit but just not as experienced as we were.  We won convincingly but it wasn't a blow out.

I should also mention, that the whitewater rafting was big hit with the boys.  Many commented that they wanted to return.  We actually stayed a little longer than anticipated as a group of the boys chosed to do the wave rider as well.

While in Amsterdam, I booked the beer bike (Dam Tours) which was very well received.  We had to bikes, €17 per person each for two hours.  They provide a driver and it included 30 litres of beer on each.  It was a great way to see the city and have some fun.  The same company offered us a great deal on a canal boat tour that we ended up taking the nexd evening.  It was a 1.5 hour tour with 6 beers each for 20 euros each.

All in all it was a great tour.  A nice combination of rugby, culture and party time.  OK....maybe a bit too much party time!

Old Richians U11 Tour to Shropshire

posted on Monday, 30 April 12

Old Richians U11s hosted a tour match for us back in 2011. From there, we kept in touch, and they decided on a jaunt along the Welsh border to Shropshire. A tour with three wins against Oswestry RFC, Chester RFC & Whitchurch RFC was a great success, and we look forward to working with the club again!

Tour was a massive success, everything went better than we could have imagined.

The PGL staff were without doubt the making of the trip, nothing was to much trouble with activities changed at last minute to suit preference on the day.

Holy Cross conquer Scotland

posted on Thursday, 19 April 12

The Holy Cross Crusaders Tour planning for us started back in August 2010. It soon became evident of the fantastic ambition that Head Coach Michael Chambers had for his team for their tour. We worked over several ideas for itineraries, tour bases, activities and rugby related experiences until we had a tour package that was tailored exactly to the requirements of the team.

Three contrasting tour bases, some superb fixtures, guest coaching from one of European Rugby's biggest names, and plenty of action-packed days out made for a great tour.

It was a pleasure watching this one unfold and getting to know the Holy Cross group.

This past nine days has been tremendous. We have achieved everything we wanted to accomplish. We didn't set out to come to Scotland and bounce around and play rugby now and then, we wanted a full package where the girls had Rugby, Activities, Scottish Culture and Heritage and everything has fit quite nicely.

The Rugby Experience has been more than we could have asked for. We cannot complain about any of the Rugby parts of the tour. The games we have played, the paces we have practised and the coaching from Pro Players has been fantastic.

To come over here and have that experience, especially from the girls perspective has been fantastic.

From the start, we really liked the fluidity of working with Sky High Sports. Nothing was set in stone, and as time went on the package developed and your recommendations and ideas made it a perfect Scottish Experience.
