CSU Long Beach Tour to Central Europe

CSU Long Beach

posted on Saturday, 22 August 15

Following their exceptional tour to Italy in 2013, CSU Long Beach visited Holland, Belgium & Germany on their bi-annual Tour in August 2015.

The Californian Tourists kicked off in Amsterdam and enjoyed a heady mix of partying, powerboating, brewery tours and Rugby before heading inland to Dusseldorf, Germany. A win over the Dusseldorf Dragons came before a venuture into Belgium and our favourite tour base in Gent.

The Rugby highlight was undoubtedly a 19-22 reverse against Royal Rugby Kituro, the reigning Belgian National Champions.

"Overall it was an awesome experience! Spakenburg has the best rugby pitch I have ever seen. It was the perfect emerald green carpet. Dusseldorf was more of a pasture..  Jamie needs a proper flag like the Japanese tour guides. Gent was my favorite by far. A lot of the guys said Dusseldorf was their favorite. Amsterdam is Amsterdam. It was a lot like Las Vegas, three days is enough.  I'm spreading the word of Sky High Sports to all of the teams in our league. You guys are on our website and linked in the tours section."

Portadown Panthers Tour to Shropshire

Portadown Panthers

posted on Sunday, 07 June 15

In June 2015, Portadown Panthers Learning Difficulties Mixed Tag team ventured across the North Sea to visit one of our excellent Mini Rugby Tour locations. During the tour, they competed in the Wooden Spoon Tag Festival at Telford Hornets.

The report we recieved from their group leader Willie Gribben made the hard work worthwhile.

Hi Richie

I am e-mailing you to thank you very much, on behalf of Portadown Panthers who have just returned from a most enjoyable and successful 3 day trip to Shropshire. Everyone involved, players, parents, family members, supporters, volunteers and coaches was extremely impressed by how well the tour was organised.

Your company deserves a huge amount of credit for its detailed planning. Nothing was overlooked from the moment the coach arrived in Chambers Park on Friday morning until it returned to Chambers Park on Sunday evening full of a very tired but extremely delighted and joyous group of Panthers!

As the main organiser within our club I  cannot compliment your company's role highly enough. You took away all of the concerns & functions that are normally associated with such a role. I basically had very little to do  from when we met until our return.

In summary I would ask you, on behalf of Portadown Panthers, to pass on our sincere thanks to everyone involved for making our weekend such a memorable experience. It has been a great pleasure dealing with such a thoughtful, professional and supportive company. I especially want to thank you, Ritchie, for everything that you have done and especially for your understanding and support throughout the months of planning.

Kind regards

Caerphilly Tigers RFC Tour to Edinburgh

posted on Monday, 04 May 15

Jo Thomas and the girls from Caephilly Tigers first toured with us in 2014 to Shropshire. Following the success of that trip, something a little further afield was planned. Edinburgh, our old favourite was chosen and we were delighted to see the tour unfold the way it did. A game in the backdrop of Murrayfield Stadium against the Wanderers was followed up with a match on the journey home at our home club Tynedale RFC in Northumberland. A stadium tour, ten-pin bowling and a ghost walk filled the itinerary.

"The tour thoroughly exceeded our expectations The hospitality and welcome we received at the clubs was spot on. The tour to Edinburgh was well planned, the restaurants were top notch and every minute was enjoyed by all."

Brett Larke and his U14 from Wymondham RFC ventured on their fourth Sky High Sports Tour in 2015. They followed up Mini Rugby Tours to Wiltshire (2012) and Lincolnshire (2013) with a Junior Tour to Bath in 2014. 2015 saw them head to the beautiful city of Oxford. The city is quickly becoming a favourite of ours for younger teams given the compact layout, friendly and safe nature and of course the stunning city scape. Wymondham played games at Oxford Harlequins RFC and Chipping Norton RFC.

"Great tour to a couple of cracking clubs where we were made most welcome. The boys loved it."

Banbury RFC embarked on their second tour with Sky High Sports in 2015. They followed up a Mini Rugby Tour to Dorset in 2014 with a venture a little further along the south coast to our new destination in Exeter. Away from the Rugby, the team had a Surf Lesson on the beach in between games at Keynsham RFC & Ivybridge RFC. The testimonial below is the sort of message that makes the hard work worthwhile!

"Many thanks for organising a fantastic tour, you really managed to arrange something special for us this year, and it is truly appreciated. Everything that you had arranged was great. The hosts, Keynsham and Kingsbridge were superb, they both gave us a very warm welcome, their lads are a great bunch who gave us a great game of rugby. The Hotel was beautiful, perfect location, staff were great, truly 1st class accommodation. The kids and parents absolutely loved the surfing, a perfect post-match activity and certainly a good way to get rid of a hangover. This was by far our best tour yet."

Their accommodation was right in the heart of Leeds which made evening entertainment a doddle. Local clubs Yarnbury RFC and Morley RFC were excellent hosts.

"The tour to Leeds was a resounding success, with the host team of Yarnbury RFC being everything we could have wanted.  The hotel was also great and in a superb location in town.  Excellent tour all round."

Wymondham RFC Mini's have now travelled on four occaisions on a Mini Rugby Tour. Having previously travelled to three of our formal Mini Rugby Tour locations, geography meant that we have to get creative with the destination for 2015. We chose York as it tied in nicely with the excellent hosts at Wetherby RFC and the superb Dinnington RFC Mini Rugby Festival. The hostel, its location and the beautiful city of York offered Wymondham something different to normal, and the results were fantastic.

Not all my words, but those of many ! "Fantastic !" "Best tour ever...!" "Fabulous tour, great accommodation, great rugby, brilliant weekend."

Thank you very much, you made me look a planning genius! The service provided was faultless. I cannot thank you enough for your help in providing what was an excellent tour.

From the outset, it was clear that the team were looking for a special rugby experience. We were glad to provide a once in a lifetime opportunity for the team. The tour took in London, York and Edinburgh and included a host of highlights which we were delighted to arrange.

  • A fixture against Saracens Amateurs RFC at Allianz Park, the home of the professional English Club Team Saracens,
  • A visit to Twickenham Stadium & the World Rugby Museum
  • Behind the scenes visit to Rugby School
  • Guest Coaching with Scotland Internationals David Denton & Tim Visser in Edinburgh
  • Billeted Accommodation with Royal High School in Edinburgh
  • Fixtures with York RFC & Murrayfield Wanderers RFC
  • Guided Tour of Murrayfield Stadium
  • White Water Rafting & Whiskey Tasting in the Scottish Highlands

"I have spoken to a lot of people, players and parents, about the tour and without fail they all thought it was well organized and a fantastic experience.  The games were well balanced and the Royal High School billeting was a big hit.  The coaching session by Tim Visser and David Denton  was well received and the players got a lot out of it.  Everybody thought you and Jamie did an excellent job and were always available when needed.

Everyone had a life experience they will never forget.  The players were received the best possible game match ups and training sessions were excellent.

Acklam RFC stayed in Keswick, enjoyed games at Wigton RFC and Kirkby Lonsdale RFC and spent Saturday in the chilly waters of the Lake District on an excellent Ghyll Scrambing adventure.

Malton & Norton U16 Tour to Paris

posted on Monday, 06 April 15

Malton & Norton RFC U16 visited Paris over Easter Weekend. The team stayed at a lively Holiday Park on the outskirts of the city, played two toughly fought games and caught the Racing Metro '92 Vs Saracens Quarter Final match in the European Champions Cup.

One obstacle often facing teams from the North of England when travelling to France is choice between the mammoth bus journey either side of the Ferry, or the hassle and cost of Flights. We overcame this by booking train tickets from York Station to Dover via Kings Cross, where the tour coach collected the team ahead of the crossing to Calais. This shaved nearly 4 hours off the journey to the Ferry Terminal. As the tickets were booked 12 weeks ahead of the tour, the prices were very favourable. A great way to travel quickly and affordably.

"Sky High organised the tour with minimum fuss and were very flexible when dealing with our requests. The accommodation, transport and opposition was all spot on." Read the Club Tour Report by clicking here.

Tring RFC were maiden Sky High Sports tourists in 2015. As Colts, they were looking for somewhere that would be suitable for some enthusiastic teenagers to let their hair down at the end of a long season. They stayed in the shadows of the Millennium Stadium, visited our old friends at Pentyrch RFC for a round-robin with St Peters RFC, and took to the white water on Cardiff Bay. A great tour and one we'd love to replicate.

"Very well organised tour. The guys at Sky High Sports were excellent. We had absolutely no issues and the touring clubs knew what to expect from us as well. Would recommend Sky Sports to any team I know who are looking to organise a tour for any age group."

They played games at Brighton RFC and Hastings & Bexhill RFC and enjoyed the action packed itinerary available on a Sky High Sports Mini Rugby Tour. We can't wait to see them on tour again in 2016.

Tynedale RFC U14 Tour to Belfast

posted on Sunday, 15 February 15

Tynedale RFC U14 ventured on their third tour as an age group with Sky High Sports. In 2015, the followed their tours to Glasgow and Chester with a jump across the North Sea to Belfast. A great city, and one we're always pleased to send teams to. Flights from Newcastle made the journey short and sharp, and they arrived in time for the Ulster Vs Treviso match at Ravenhill. Two games of their own, an obligatory visit to the excellent Titanic Museum, an after-dark ghost walk of the historic city and a trip to a brilliant Indoor Waterpak topped off their weekend.

Overall we had a great time.  Both matches were good and well matched.  Clubs, especially Ballynahinch, were very welcoming. The tour activities were great - Ulster match on Friday night, ghost tour and Titanic tour - kept adults and children amused.  Belfast was much nicer city than most of us had anticipated. Hotel was excellent.

Alton RFC Tour to Gent

Brussels Celtic Vs Alton RFC

posted on Sunday, 02 November 14

Alton RFC undertook their third Sky High Sports Tour this November, when the added Gent to their list of destinations alongside the previous tours to Cardiff and Wiltshire.

A great fixture with our old friends at Brussels Celtic Rugby and a visit to Royal Kituro Rugby was followed up with the best all-you-can-eat Ribs Restaurant in Town. We didn't get much more details from the team - I am told that what goes on tour, stays on tour!

Gent will always be near the top of our list of preferred locations. It is a magnificent city and one which really offers groups of all ages a taste of the real Belgium.

I am just letting you know that, by all accounts, the lads and parents had a great time, although I believe all the tourers are sticking to the old saying that "what goes on tour, stays on tour". Everything went smoothly, apparently. The feedback regarding the hotel and restaurants was very good.

Thank you once again Richie for your efforts.  I am not sure what will be arranged for future tours and whether I will be involved, however I would like to thank you very much for the last three adventures.

Christleton High School U14 travelled to our native North-East for a half-term tour. During which, they played fixtures with QEHS Hexham, Acklam RUFC & Guisborough RFC, winning two from three games along the way.

The team trained with a highly qualified RFU Coach, watched Darlington Mowden Park Vs Fylde in National Division one at the impressive 26,000 seater arena, endured a chilly surf lesson at Tynemouth, 10-pinned at the Metro Centre and were fed like kings at a few of our own favourite eateries in Newcastle.

A superb tour with a great bunch of kids and staff, a credit to their school.

What a wonderful tour, the operator was so helpful from start to finish and they really catered to our needs. The boys absolutely loved it and are looking forward to the next tour which will be with Sky High Sports, hopefully to Italy or France. Well done.

Banbury RFC U14 were another new client for us in 2014. They were looking for an active and rugby-packed weekend to celebrate the end of their season. We arranged our activity-centre in Dorset for them, U14 is probably the oldest age group suited to the centre, but this one worked a treat. Dorchester RFC pulled out all the stops to host Banbury, and welcomed a mix of local and touring sides to their club for a superb day of end-of-season rugby. A fantastic result.

Read the post-tour report on the Banbury RFC website.

Banbury RFC U14s had a fantastic tour to Dorset, organised by Sky High Sports.

Boys and adults alike enjoyed the activities, and we had a 5-way rugby tournament at Dorchester, which was very well organised.

Really comfortable, new bedding! Many laughs throughout the weekend... and even the weather was great. Would strongly recommend.

The U11 team from Wirral RFC visited Shropshire on their end of season tour in 2014. The Shropshire tour base enjoys a unique location on the English-Welsh border, so it was too good an opportunity to pass up in arranging one game either side of the mark. Welshpool RFC and Telford RFC hosted the 'Wasps,' in what turned out to be another superb Mini Rugby Tour

We had a fantastic time on tour.  The room set up when we got there was great, set away from other groups so we could be a little noisy if we wanted to.  The staff were friendly and polite, and our rep Jack was an absolute cracking lad who couldn't do enough for us. The Rugby itself the teams we played virtually matched us in skill which made for some great rugby.  The hosting teams were exceptional.

Food at the accommodation was good, no one went hungry.  The evening activities were great.

All in all though a fantastic tour.

Sunderland RFC U16 travelled to Den Haag in 2014, three years after a tour to Chester as U13 in 2011. Sunderland RFC came to us after another operator took their deposit before dramatically changing the goal-posts of the tour. Thankfully, that tour was swiftly cancelled and we had a chance to show what we could do.

The tour centred around the Easter Rugby Festival at Hilversum RC near Amsterdam and a one-off fixture at RC Gouda - one of our favourite tour hosts. The team travelled across the North Sea to Amsterdam from Newcastle and stayed at an excellent Hostel in the heart of Den Haag.

Den Haag is our #1 tour-base in the Netherlands for tricky U16 groups, so we were delighted with the feedback we received from the tour leader.

A seamless experience from beginning to end. All players and other tourists were impressed with every bit of the tour and all arrangements.

Mattie, our coach driver was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful, the ferry experience was an added bonus as the lads thoroughly enjoyed it.

The accommodation was just what was needed for this type of tour and age group.

Best of all was the rugby fixtures as arranged by Richie - Gouda were very welcoming and accommodating, a great club in a fantastic setting. The Hilversum Tournament was well organised, with some very competitive teams. We watched some fantastic rugby!

Thanks to Richie and his team, well done!

Bangor Grammar School Tour to Newcastle

Bangor GS Vs Newcastle RGS at Druid Park

posted on Sunday, 12 January 14

Bangor Grammar School toured to Newcastle in January 2014. A pre-season tour of sorts, the trip was motivated by the Schools upcoming fixtures in the ferociously competitive Ulster Schools Cup. The order was for tough fixtures at both U15 and U18 level, plenty training and full-board accommodation.

We lined up games at Newcastle RGS and Yarm School - two of North-East Englands toughest Rugby Schools, training at Druid Park, the 3G Pitch of choice for the Newcastle Falcons & at Sport Central, the £30 Million sports complex in the heart of Newcastle City Centre.

Due to the unpredictable nature of Geordie Weather in January, the games were played at Druid Park and the 3G pitch at Durham University. All bases covered!

A superb tour and one we were particularly proud of.

We had an excellent tour to Newcastle. All the staff were top class. We were supported and welcomed throughout our trip. We will definitely use Sky High Sports again.

Berkhamsted School Tour to Newcastle

posted on Sunday, 01 September 13

The Berkhamsted School travelled to the North-East of England in August for a pre-season camp ahead of the Tynedale RFC School Rugby Festival. During their camp, their training schedule included visits to the Gym, Fitness Suite and Swimming Pool at Northumbria Universitys' incredible Sport Central Complex, Pitch Sessions at Bullocksteads Sports Ground & Jed-Forest RFC, Tickets to the Newcastle Falcons Vs Edinburgh Rugby pre-season match at Hawick and of course entry to the festival.

Berkhamsted were worthy winners of the U18 Plate Competition at Tynedale.

This is a tour itinerary unique to Sky High Sports and one which we are immensely proud of.

I thought the Festival and Tour were a great experience for our players. The hostel is great and the facilities at the University were very useful.

Having the Sky High Sports team on hand to answer any questions and show us around was also very useful and Richard did a great job of this.

The boys loved the trip to Hawick to watch the Falcons play Edinburgh.

We will be bringing our senior and possibly our U15 squads to the Festival next year as the whole experience was great preparation for the season ahead.

Pangbourne College Tour to Newcastle

Pangbourne College

posted on Sunday, 01 September 13

Pangbourne College made their first trip to the North-East of England in August for a pre-season camp ahead of the Tynedale RFC School Rugby Festival.

This is a tour itinerary unique to Sky High Sports and one which we are immensely proud of.

An awesome four days of pre-season training and highly recommend it to any other school or club. The organisation of the four days and the training facilities were top class.

The early morning gym and pool session with four hours of training was the perfect way to start the season. The morning beach session was a highlight alongside the evening activities in particular the all you can eat meat buffet and Newcastle Falcons game.

Many thanks to Richie and the Sky High Sports team and we will certainly be returning next year.

Kings College Taunton Tour to Newcastle

This was the second time Kings College, Taunton made the trip to the North-East of England in August for a pre-season camp ahead of their tough fixture schedule. During their camp, their training schedule included visits to the Gym, Fitness Suite and Swimming Pool at Northumbria Universitys' incredible Sport Central Complex, Pitch Sessions at Bullocksteads Sports Ground & Jed-Forest RFC, Tickets to the Newcastle Falcons Vs Edinburgh Rugby pre-season match and a refreshing session on the glorious Tynemouth Beach

This is a tour itinerary unique to Sky High Sports and one which we are immensely proud of.

We wanted to use our tour as an opportunity for a pre-season training camp in order to help with team bonding and quality practice. Newcastle is a great city and the players enjoyed social aspects of dinner out in the town and the MetroCentre.

The facilities we were able to access were tremendous. Sports Central is a great environment to bring young players in to and the chance to meet professional athletes and see a premiership club in action were the icing on the cake.

This is our second visit to the North East with Sky High Sports and the level of attention and support given by the staff was outstanding. Everything ran extremely smoothly and we will certainly be back.

Barrhaven Scottish Tour to Central Europe

Barrhaven Scottish Tour to Central Europe

posted on Wednesday, 21 August 13

Barrhaven Scottish RFC U17 and U19 from Ottawa, Canada, toured The Netherlands, Germany and Belgium in August 2013. The tour was two years in the making and we were delighted with the success of the tour and the feedback we received.

Den Haag, Dusseldorf & Gent were the three tour bases, in which, a total of six fixtures were arranged in the tricky month of August.

Tour leader, Bobby Strawbridge wanted to take the team on a cultural experience that would leave an impression on the players for a lifetime. Opting against the more traditional Rugby territories of Great Britain, France & Ireland, Bobby chose between the Central European itinerary and a similar option in Eastern Europe.

Away from the Rugby, the tour included a visit to a Dutch Cheese & Clog Farm, White Water Rafting, a Theme Park Day and a sombre tour through the World War I battleields in Belgium.

A superb alternative to the well-trodden rugby tracks elsewhere in Europe, this is a tour which we are proud to offer and one which comes with a massive thumbs up.

Sky High Sports gave the Barrhaven Scottish Junior Men the Tour of a lifetime.  The tailored program worked perfectly and the range of activities ensured the lads were always kept busy.

A highly polished, professional performance but one with a grass roots feeling and personal involvement from Richie and his team.

I would recommend any team to get a sample itinerary from Sky High as part of their planning.

We shopped around and hands down Sky High were the most approachable, flexible and offered the best value for money of them all. A big thanks from all at Barrhaven Scottish.

California State Uni Long Beach Tour to Italy

California State Uni Long Beach Tour to Italy

posted on Tuesday, 20 August 13

The Californian State University Long Beach Tour to Italy was a huge success for both the touring team and ourselves as Tour Operators.

CSULB have a touring history & tradition to rival the British Lions. We were delighted to be set the challenge of adding the next chapter to a glowing list of tours.

Italy was chosen as the destination early in the process. Italy in August is holiday time - so the task of finding rugby of any nature was enough for many to roll their eyes and deny any assistance.

It is amazing what a bit of perserverance can achieve. The CSULB team played two Barbarians Teams. First in Rome, a combination of players from six different Roman clubs came together at Colleferro Rugby in the searing summer heat for a good tour opener.

Then, six days later in stunning Como, another Barbarians team came together with players from across Lombardy to put on a great game. The tourists won 20-7.

Away from the Rugby, CSULB had a great tour. Rome, Florence & Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Milan & Lake Como were all taken in, and there wasn't many 'to-do's' left in the Lonely Planet Guide to do.

My players & coaching staff felt that we had a fantastic tour of Italy both on and off the field.  Dealing with Richie and Sky High Sports tours was a really good experience for us as they understand what is needed for a successful Rugby tour and having a tour guide there made my tour much more enjoyable as the little details got taken care off.

Richie went above and beyond with the service we received and I would strongly recommend Sky High Sports for any other US or Canadian Rugby Team wanting to tour Europe.

It is nice to deal with true professionals (who happen to love Rugby). We will be using them for our next tour which is I guess the best compliment I can give.

Sutton Coldfield Mini's first toured with us to Wiltshire in 2012. This was their second Mini Rugby Tour with Sky High Sports. They will once again be touring in 2014, another testament to the quality of the tour

This was our second Mini-Rugby Tour with Sky High Sports, and everybody was more than happy with the tour to Dorset.

The Paintball activity you arranged for us on the Saturday was very good. Osmington Bay is a really nice place, located on the coast the views are stunning, it was a great base for the tour.

On-site, the Staff were very accommodating and as such they allowed the parents to relax and have a drink in the evening and not worry about the kids misbehaving.

Again, the activities we did were brilliant.  The rugby tournament at Wimborne RFC was also excellent and we managed to win it!

Many thanks to Richie and the Sky High Sports team for another excellent tour!

Ashville College, a private school from Harrogate, Yorkshire, wanted to visit Rome to coincide with a RBS 6 Nations match at the Stadio Olimpico.

With tickets to the Italy Vs Wales match in hand, the team played two tough games, went paintballing in the Lazio countryside and stayed a stonesthrow from the city centre.

A superb tour to Rome.

Our Tour to Rome Italy was fantastic; both the rugby matches we played were of a good level and our tour organiser in Rome was first class.

Transport too and from matches and activities was always on time and of a very high standard and I always felt that if we did have any problems they would have been sorted quickly.

I would like to thank Richie and his team for a great trip and I will be using skyhigh sports for my next tour.

The Tynedale RFC U16 Tour to Amsterdam is a long standing tradition. At the end of Mini/Junior Rugby and before the boys move up to Senior Rugby with the Colts XV, this is a great way to celebrate the end of the team as it were. This was the first time Tynedale RFC worked with an operator on their U16 Touring tradition, following a successful U15 Tour to Belfast the previous year. We were delighted with the result.

This was our second time that we used Sky High Sports and once again we had a very good tour. Anyone who has run a tour before knows how much work it takes and using a company like Sky High Sports takes all the hard work away from you.

Hamilton Hornets Tour to England & Wales

The hosts - Devizes RFC

posted on Monday, 03 September 12

Hamilton Hornets U19 from Ontario, Canada, first contacted Sky High Sports about a tour to Wales and England in early 2011. From the outset, the budget for the tour was the important factor in getting the tour off the ground.

We arranged a 12-day tour that strictly kept to the Hornets budget without losing the quality of a great tour.

We would like to pass our thanks to Devizes RFC in Wiltshire and Crymych RFC in West Wales who hosted the Canadian Tourists on respective 2-night billets. This is a fantastic touring tradition and while there are often obstacles to overcome, it is a tradition we are always keen to arrange for our touring teams.

The touring side spent the majority of the tour in Cardiff, a superb Rugby city, and a great place to stay on a budget. From sightseeing to late-night swimming in the River Taff, it was great to see the Hamilton team enjoy their stay.

Fixtures with Pentyrch RFC and Llandaff RFC in the Cardiff area were complimented by a training day at Bath Rugby, a tour of the Millennium Stadium, Paintballing and tickets to watch Bath Rugby play Cardiff Blues in a pre-season match at the iconic Recreation Ground stadium.

We had a great time. Thanks for all your hard work, it was a great tour. Some of the guys are still having withdrawal problems! The boys can't wait to host the Crymych RFC team back here in Canada.

We hard to work really hard to raise funds for the tour. We couldn't have done the tour without your help in keeping the tour to our budget.

Sarnia Saints Tour to Central Europe

The Saints at the Canadian War Memorial in Ypres

posted on Thursday, 23 August 12

Sarnia Saints, from Ontario, Canada, spent 11 days visiting our three favourite tour bases in Central Europe - Gent in Belgium, Cologne in Germany and Amsterdam.

With two wins from three games, plenty party-time, white-water rafting, a World War One Battlefield Tour & a visit to a super Belgian Brewery, the tour was action packed, full of fun, and a great success.

Tour Manager Craig McKenzie takes up the story.

Overall I was happy with the tour and the arrangements. I was a little concerned that with the number of bus transfers we were to have that there may be some issues but this was not the case.  The busses all arrived on or before schedule and all the drivers were great.

I can't say enough about our guide, Ian who did our World War One Battlefield Tour day.  It would not have been the same without having him there.  Many of the boys have commented on how much they appreciated that day and his input was certainly a large factor.  My only regret is that I did not tip him for his time!

The accomodations in Ghent were nice!  Both locations in Ghent and Colonge were great. All of our accomodations were close to trams or rail line so that was nice.

As far as the fixtures went...Ghent was wonderful.  One of their players was a great host meeting us on our first day and showing us about town.  The Ghent Club showed us wonderful hospitality.  It was a good match up for us, they were young and fit but just not as experienced as we were.  We won convincingly but it wasn't a blow out.

I should also mention, that the whitewater rafting was big hit with the boys.  Many commented that they wanted to return.  We actually stayed a little longer than anticipated as a group of the boys chosed to do the wave rider as well.

While in Amsterdam, I booked the beer bike (Dam Tours) which was very well received.  We had to bikes, €17 per person each for two hours.  They provide a driver and it included 30 litres of beer on each.  It was a great way to see the city and have some fun.  The same company offered us a great deal on a canal boat tour that we ended up taking the nexd evening.  It was a 1.5 hour tour with 6 beers each for 20 euros each.

All in all it was a great tour.  A nice combination of rugby, culture and party time.  OK....maybe a bit too much party time!

Alton RFC Tour to Wiltshire

posted on Monday, 30 April 12

Alton RFC U14 travelled to Wiltshire in April for their 2012 Tour. The weekend was subject to some servere rainfall, but due to the great work by the fixture hosts at Frome RFC and Avonvale RFC, the scheduled games went ahead, and the Alton team had a great weekend.

We were impressed with the efficiency of Sky High Sports from our first point of contact. All details were taken into consideration, and the whole tour - from the accommodation through to the games and the entertainment in the spare time was planned and executed well. The boys and parents all enjoyed themselves immensely - and we would not hesitate in recommending working with Richie for your own club.

Tour was a massive success, everything went better than we could have imagined.

The PGL staff were without doubt the making of the trip, nothing was to much trouble with activities changed at last minute to suit preference on the day.

Abbey Park on Tour in England

Abbey Park Vs Oxford Barbarians

posted on Thursday, 19 April 12

Abbey Park High School from Oakville, Ontario toured London, Oxford and Bath in April 2012. After contacting us in late 2011, time was short to plan the tour. But, with a fantastic amount of enthusiasm from Coach Heather Weston, we managed to plan an excellent tour that took in three of England's gem cities and gave the team a Rugby Experience to remember.

We were originally working with a firm in Canada whom we came very close to booking with. However, one of our girls' Dad's had met with Richie from Sky High Sports in Oakville last summer and made contact. Instantly, Richie provided us with a quotation that was several hundred dollars cheaper for a longer and more inclusive tour.

I can honestly say, the tour itself has gone beyond our expectations. The support of the Sky High Sports staff has been incredible. The girls have had a memorable time.

The accommodation in all three cities were perfect for our group, the locations enabled us to get the most out of each base.

Finally, the Rugby Experience of the tour has been exceptional. Our fixtures, training venues and guest coaching sessions at Oxford University and Bath Rugby Club got the girls learning a whole lot.

I cannot thank you enough and would highly recommend Sky High Sports to any team looking to travel to the UK on tour.

Holy Cross conquer Scotland

Holy Cross

posted on Thursday, 19 April 12

The Holy Cross Crusaders Tour planning for us started back in August 2010. It soon became evident of the fantastic ambition that Head Coach Michael Chambers had for his team for their tour. We worked over several ideas for itineraries, tour bases, activities and rugby related experiences until we had a tour package that was tailored exactly to the requirements of the team.

Three contrasting tour bases, some superb fixtures, guest coaching from one of European Rugby's biggest names, and plenty of action-packed days out made for a great tour.

It was a pleasure watching this one unfold and getting to know the Holy Cross group.

This past nine days has been tremendous. We have achieved everything we wanted to accomplish. We didn't set out to come to Scotland and bounce around and play rugby now and then, we wanted a full package where the girls had Rugby, Activities, Scottish Culture and Heritage and everything has fit quite nicely.

The Rugby Experience has been more than we could have asked for. We cannot complain about any of the Rugby parts of the tour. The games we have played, the paces we have practised and the coaching from Pro Players has been fantastic.

To come over here and have that experience, especially from the girls perspective has been fantastic.

From the start, we really liked the fluidity of working with Sky High Sports. Nothing was set in stone, and as time went on the package developed and your recommendations and ideas made it a perfect Scottish Experience.

Blyth Spartans travelled to Hamont in Belgium for their Easter 2012 Tour to compete in the Euro-Toornoi at FC Hamont. This was the second tour for this group, after they toured Rotterdam with Sky High Sports in 2011.

At FC Hamont, the team competed with teams from across Europe, and got all the way to the final, beating Dutch opposition on Penalties to lift the trophy.

The team travelled to Holland on the North Sea Ferry from Newcastle, stayed at a fantastic holiday park on the Dutch/Belgian border and took in a Stadium Tour of PSV Eindhoven's Philips Stadion.

A great tour, and we look forward to seeing them again in 2013.

Tynedale RFC U15s Tour to Belfast

Tynedale RFC

posted on Monday, 02 April 12

We were delighted to work with Tynedale RFC U15s on their tour to Belfast. We first made contact with the team following a presentation we did at the National Division One club in September.

After developing action packed tours to both Paris and Belfast, the latter was chosen, and an exceptional fundraising plan was put together.

It was evident that a busy itinerary was required to keep the U15 boys active for four full days. We planned tickets to an Ulster match at Ravenhill, Beach Training Sessions, a late-night Ghost Walk, a Paintball & Clay Pigeon shooting day at one of Ireland's premier activity centres, admission to Belfast Zoo and the newly opened Titanic Experience.

With Flights, Zoo Sport Team Kit & Insurance added to the basic tour package, this was a fully inclusive Sky High Sports Tour, and one we enjoyed putting together.

Tynedale RFC U15's toured Belfast this year via a booking with Sky High Sports. From the first contact with Richie at Sky High Sport it soon came evident that we were in for a very well planned tour with no stones left unturned. The way the company dealt with our demands was first class and they even gave a full brief of what he could provide to all the players as well as there families.

After what can be only being described as a well planned and fun filled weekend everyone one that went on the tour is still talking about it two weeks later.

We have already starting planning next years tour along with Sky High Sports. I can only say that anyone that has planned their own tour in the past knows how much work is involved and working with a company as good as Sky High Sports only made our experience more pleasurable and we all send our thanks to them and look forward to next years tour.

So if you ever want to do a sports tour to any destination we all would all highly recommend Richie and the Sky High Sports Team to make your trip one to be remembered.

It is hard to praise you for all your hard work but I will ensure that everyone that I know in all sports get to know about your company and I look forward to working with you again.

St Clair Colts, an U18 High School Girls team from Sarnia, Ontario chose Italy as their destination for their Easter break tour in 2011. We love organising Italian Tours, and put on a fantastic 10-days for the team in Lake Como, Liguria, Tuscany and Rome.

With the regional championships waiting for them on their return, St Clair warmed up with a tournament against Rugby Monza, the Veneto Provincial team and a representative team from the Emilia-Romagna province. The team also caught the Italian Women's Rugby Final between Benetton Treviso and Riviera del Brenta.

A Cruise on Lake Como, shopping in Milan, Zip Wiring in the Alps, Pizza School, Gladiator Academy and a Thermal Spa visit made up the rest of the tour.

Our Italy Tour with Sky High Sports was "AWESOME". It was the perfect combination of Tourism, Sport & Culture for both the players & chaperones.

Eton Manor Post-Match on Tour

posted on Friday, 15 April 11

Eton Manor U15's travelled to Bath and Gloucester for an action packed weekend in the Spring. They trained with coaches from Bath RFC, saw the Bath 1st XV in training before having lunch with them in the clubhouse, watched the Bath Vs Harlequins match at the Rec, played in a 4-team tournament and finished off the tour with an action packed morning of paintball. An excellent tour in a superb location.

It is difficult to pick a highlight from our tour as everything from arrival at Bath to departing our Hotel in Gloucester as everything was excellent. The facilities available at the Hotel were superb, with everything available for the boys to do from swimming to golf & squash.

The Bath experience was wonderful and the boys good behaviour got them an invitation to return from the coach.

Sunday's Rugby was challenging but a good game that bought our the best in Eton Manor. The hospitality afterwards was good natured and welcoming with good food and plenty of it.

I would like to say many thanks to Sky High Sports.

Sheffield Examine Bruges

posted on Monday, 21 March 11

In March 2011, the Medics XV from Sheffield University headed onto the continent for a fantastic budget tour with Sky High Sports. We arranged ideal accommodation in the heart of the city, and lined two extremely competitave games up for the students, and we were delighted to hear their comments upon return.

We were put in touch with Sky High Sports by a friend. We received a quick, comprehensive and competitive quote which gave us options on destination, mode of travel and various levels of accommodation.    Having decided on Bruges, all the planning was left to our tour organiser Richie who found us superb hostel accommodation in the centre of Bruges and a fantastic coach driver who became part of the team for the weekend, all for a very reasonable price.

In addition he also found sought a competetive price on tour shirts which were of top quality and delivered well in advance of the tour.

Everything ran smoothly from collection in Sheffield, to crossing the channel and arriving at our destination on schedule.

We found Bruges to be a beautiful city and we found the Belgian people to be very welcoming.  The pubs provided great beers and at prices which were cheaper than expected (average €2.00) and good quality.

We were well received at both of our 2 matches, which were perfectly pitched at our level of Rugby.  Our hosts made us feel very at home with some complimentary drinks and post match presentations of ties and shirts.

We would recommend Sky High Sports for any student Rugby tour and we hope to tour with Richie's guidance again in the future!

Thanks for organising a great weekend!

The Woodlands RFC (TX) Tour to England & Scotland

The Woodlands vs Tynedale RFC

posted on Sunday, 20 March 11

The Woodlands RFC U18 team from Houston, Texas, landed at Newcastle Airport in March 2011. After a full-year of planning the team enjoyed a massively successful tour. On the pitch, highlights included a narrow victory over Newcastle Royal Grammar School, a great match at Scottish Border League Champions Tynedale Colts but a game at the famous Mansfield Park ground against Hawick RFC was a special experience.

The team benefitted from a coaching day with ex-Newcastle Falcons head coach Steve Bates, walked Hadrian's Wall, spent a day Curling with the England Curling team, watched the Scotland Rugby Team in training at Murrayfield before returning the next day to see them take on Italy in the Six Nations.

A fantastic tour, and one we were proud to organise.

The Woodlands went to England and Scotland over spring break and had an amazing experience. I would gladly recommend any team in the USA wanting to organise a tour in UK or Europe to contact Sky High Sports.

I know there are sometimes bad experiences so I can say that the company took very good care of us and I would gladly recommend using Sky High Sports. I know that we spent close to a year organising our tour but they came through on all commitments. Overall, I feel the tour was excellent.

We were delighted with your recommendation of Newcastle as a destination. Our experiences both in the city but in particular at the host clubs were the highlight of our tour.

Alnwick RFC's Twickenham date

Alnwick RFC On Tour

posted on Sunday, 21 November 10

In November 2010, the U13s and U14s from Alnwick RFC in Northumberland boarded the train and headed to London ahead of their action packed tour to the Capital. They were met at Kings Cross by the bus bound for their activity centre accommodation in the stunning Surrey countryside.

Amidst Zip-Wiring, Climbing, Assault Courses and an adrenaline fuelled Giant Swing, the team played tough matches at Glyn School and Sutton & Epsom RFC, with the U13s and U14s both winning one and losing one. The undoubted highlight though was a visit to Twickenham to watch the England Vs Samoa match. Group leader Stephen Dickinson gives his thoughts on the tour below.

On behalf of my fellow coaches, the parents, players and I, I would like to thank you for your assistance in the organisation of our recent tour to Twickenham. The feedback from all who were on the trip has been that everyone had an absolutely fantastic time, and a truly memorable experience.

Everything ran like clockwork and your choice of accommodation was superb, it made the trip so much more enjoyable for the coaches and parents as the activities and staff at the PGL centre occupied the boys, never giving them an opportunity to get bored. This made our jobs so much easier and allowed us to relax and enjoy the tour without worrying about keeping the boys occupied and safe. I will strongly recommend it to anyone who is planning a mini, midi or youth rugby tour as it kept everyone happy.

Please pass on our thanks to Glyn School, Sutton and Epsom RFC and Epsom Coaches for being so accommodating. I know how difficult organising tour fixtures can be especially on non standard match days, so well done for finding these. I was very impressed by Sutton & Epsom As, but would fancy our chances in a return leg up north, after we had softened them up with our B team! Also great to see England win at Twickenham - something the boys will remember for years.

Abbey Gate 'do' Edinburgh

Boroughmuir Vs Abbey Gate

posted on Saturday, 23 October 10

In October, Abbey Gate College, a private school from Chester, took their U14 Rugby Team to Edinburgh on a full-filled tour of the Scottish Capital. They saw Edinburgh take on Ulster at Murrayfield, got their own back on their teachers on the Paintball field, got to know Edinburgh by way of Ghost Tour, played a tour match on a Premiership pitch and stayed at one of our excellent city centre 5* Hostels. We look forward to working with them again soon!

I am writing to you because I feel it necessary to inform you of the fantastic work you have done in order to send my U14's rugby team to Edinburgh during October half-term 2010.  Your company were excellent in every department, from the prior organisation to the final travel arrangements.

I was very surprised at the quick response to an email I sent you when requesting a quote for 26 boys.  The costing was very competitive and I had no choice but to go with your company, especially after a telephone conversation shortly after the quote, when I said to myself "this company is very enthusiastic and professional."

Our tour of Edinburgh could not have gone any smoother, the pupils loved the paintballing and ghost tour but when I mentioned they were going to watch Edinburgh Vs Ulster at Murrayfield Stadium, (which I had kept from them during the build up to the tour) their jaws dropped.  They thoroughly enjoyed every second of the match and did not stop speaking about it for the rest of the night.

The two games we played could not have been pitched any better, with only a few points between the final scores of both our matches; they made for a splendid spectacle.  Many of our players positively commented on the referees, our players felt they developed their overall game play and even introduced them to new laws.

Finally, congratulations on a superb tour, your help during the trip with invaluable and I look forward to organising our next tour with you in two years.

A Six Day trip in the sunshine included two fixtures against two of the regions ex-pat based teams, plenty time in the pool and by the looks of things a lot of time exploring Vilamoura's watering holes. Upon returning, group leader Crispin Lyden-Cowan has already asked us to search out options for their 2011 tour! Great Result!

Wimbledon CC go on tour every year.  This year Sky High Sports organised our tour to Vilamoura.  What a classy place - we drank beer watching over the super yachts, ate fish gazing upon the marina evening life and partied till 4am each day.  We quickly remembered why we shouldn't drink too much before a game of Cricket in 35 degree heat !!

Our apartments were within 100 yards of the Marina, within 50 yards of every restaurant in town and just a short stagger from the bars and nightclubs that make the town famous.

Well done to Richie for sorting out our tour.  I hope the maids in the apartments know what to do with the bicycle we left in the bath.

Rovato Rugby

posted on Monday, 24 May 10

In May 2010, Rugby Rovato from Brescia in Italy flew into Cardiff for a weekend of exposure to the fantastic Rugby Culture of the city that is still a far cry from the football filled streets of Italy.

Two hard games, a hostel overlooking the Millennium Stadium plenty of excellent local hospitality and a bagful of replica shirts later, they had a great time.

We arranged the whole tour at the eleventh hour after Rovato expressed an interest following a Mold RFC tour to Italy in late March. The North Walians played Rovato in the second match of their tour.

For 12 years I have always organized our clubs travel throughout Europe and this is the first time I entrusted to a company specialising in sports tours.

The tour was organised in no time thanks to Richie at Sky High Sports. We met in Rovato during a Welsh Rugby teams' tour to Italy - and wanted to visit Wales in return!

Sky High Sports were responsive to the demands of the team and gave us the opportunity to personalise the tour.

The location of the Hostel was perfect and the bar made it a great base. Being adjacent to the Millennium Stadium was great also.

We played two excellent games with great hospitality, and we toured the Millennium Stadium which I highly recommend.

The support of Sky High Sports throughout the journey, from the moment we arrived until we departed was impeccable. We had a representative with us throughout - even during breaks in the programme.

Richie, thank you again for your help, and I will certainly contact Sky High Sports for our tour next year.

The 'Tour Geek'

posted on Thursday, 20 May 10

Galway is simply a fantastic Sports Tour destination. It epitomises everone's romantic view of the country, and when Bolton-by-Bowland Cricket Club visited the city on their tour in May 2010, they discovered this for themselves.

Just a quick note to say thank you for your efforts in organising the tour.

Everything you sorted worked to a tee, the opposition were competitive, the cricket facilities were better than anticipated and Galway managed to tip us upside down every night.

The "craic" was better than our cricket but all things considered we had a great tour, thank you for your efforts we will use you again, recommending Sky High Sports to all and sundry.

Leamington Tour to Ghent

Possibly the best/worst Tour Shirts Ever!

posted on Tuesday, 04 May 10

Leamington RFC U17's came to us in March after being let down by another Tour Operator. They had funds in place, a squad ready to tour and kit ordered. The request was for Belgium so we got to work immediately. Our preferred Hotels in our first choice of Antwerp was fully booked, so we cast the net wider and came up trumps with a fantastic venue in the heart of Ghent as well as arranging one fixture in Holland as well as one in Belgium. The client new that this was our first tour into the city and was happy to check it out, and the results were fantastic. A great tour was had by all, and we are even happier to say, that Gent sits proudly at the top of our Belgian Tour destinations as a result! Leamington are now choosing between Holland and Italy for their 2011 Tour with Sky High Sports

I would like to thank Richie and Sky High Sports for the fantasic tour they sorted out for us. From the first moment until the moment we got back, everything was faultless. Gent was excellent and I would highly recommend the Hostel we stayed at. The games you arranged were excellent and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. Many of the Dads are thinking of taking the WAGs back to Gent on a holiday!

Girls on Tour!

posted on Tuesday, 06 April 10

The RGC 1404 U18 Girls team, a selectional side made up from teams across North Wales contacted us in early 2010 wanting to arrange a tour that included tickets to a pro-match. With options for London & Paris also available, the group chose the shopping Mecca of Glasgow as their destination of choice.

During the tour, the team trained with the Glasgow Warriors and saw them defeat the Newport/Gwent Dragons in a tight Celtic League match.

We based the team in an excellent Hostel in Glasgow's trendy west-end, and were delighted to hear the group had enjoyed a great weekend.

"We had a great tour in Glasgow. Many thanks to Sky High Sports for a great time."

Severnth Heaven in Worcester

Worcester Cathedral

posted on Saturday, 02 January 10

At Sky High Sports, we take pride in our flexibility. A group of ex-university friends asked us to arrange a reunion weekend in Worcester in mid-December. We arranged all individual travel logistics, booked a cracking Hotel in the heart of the city for their get together and sent them to one of our favourite activity venues in the Malvern Hills.

I would like to pass on my thanks to Sky High Sports. We had an awesome weekend in Worcester and will be in touch again.

Chester Uni Old Boys

posted on Thursday, 17 December 09

Chester University Old Boys came to us in May 2009 and asked us to put together a tour for their annual reunion which took place in July of this year. They required a budget destination in a warm location with plenty active nightlife. We immediately recommended the Algarve as a superb place for them, and they loved it!

"Sky High Sports really do know how to organise and deliver a memorable tour.

The organisation and information we were given about 'whats hot and what's not' in Vilamoura was outstanding, we met some fantastic people and went to events such as the local bull fight which was outstanding.

The overall service and support that we received from Sky High Sports was awesome, and the trip was worth every penny. Before the trip the lads and I decided that we wanted somewhere that was hot and most of all we wanted it organised properly, and this was certainly achieved by Richie and his team.

The boys and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sky High Sports for all your help and guidance, and we look forward to booking with you again next year."

Eight Mile High through Ireland

The Belfast Wheel

posted on Thursday, 17 December 09

A social football team from Northumberland contacted us about arranging a tour to Ireland for them in October 2009. After giving them the options of Galway or Belfast, they chose the Ulster option and spent a weekend seeing the highlights of the fantastic city. Another Sky High Success.

"We contacted Sky High Sports as they were a local company with a growing reputation. We tour every year in the UK, but wanted to try Ireland. The team at Sky High Sports were excellent throughout, no task was too much and the information we had prior to our tour ensured we were never short of assistance or ideas. The Hotel, the fixtures and arrangements were all superb. See you next year!"

Duchess High School Football Tour to Holland

posted on

In April 2011, Duchess High School from Alnwick, Northumberland, took four football teams to Holland during the Easter Holidays. Two U16 Boys Teams, One U16 Girls Team & an U18 Team consisting of 60 tourists in total took the ferry to Amsterdam from Newcastle and enjoyed an action packed tour.

One of our excellent Tour Reps Phil looked after them all weekend as they played two games each, visited the Amsterdam Arena, an awesome Water Park and stayed at the excellent Hostel in Noordwijk.

Our school has recently returned from a 5 day football tour to Holland which was organised by Sky High Sports.  As the party leader I was very impressed with the professionalism and duty of care from the company in dealing with myself and our school throughout the duration of the tour.

From the onset the company was very helpful in understanding our needs and set about ensuring it met with our expectations.  Every detail was discussed and any problems were dealt with in a proficient and timely manner.  We were always kept abreast of how the tour was progressing and were given plenty of notice when the company required details/information from ourselves.

We stayed at the Hostel in Noordwijk which was clean, spacious, and very comfortable.  The staff were very helpful and courteous with our requests and the facilities were fantastic and breakfast was plentiful.  My only regret was that we did not have further time there to truly take advantage of what was on offer.

I had also asked the company for additional trips to the Ajax Arena and a Water Park.  Again this was handled very well and took into consideration our tight schedule to ensure we made the most of our time in Holland.

This was an excellent tour from start to finish.  When issues arose the company rep was there to resolve them almost immediately.  As a result of this I would have no hesitation in recommending them to organise any further tours.  In fact we are hoping to going again next year.

Our tour to Gent was one to remember; the city is spectacularly beautiful. The hostel we stayed at in was newly opened, clean and welcoming.

The city itself is small enough to be  a delight to walk around and offers a great variety of bars, good restaurants, art galleries (for the culture vultures) and medieval cathedrals (with one of the world's greatest paintings in St Bravo's).

The rugby was competitive but great fun and the people at the clubs we visited went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Information and quality of that information was excellent

Esher RFC Tour to Sussex

Esher RFC U12

Esher RFC U12 Tour to Sussex was a tour which took some arranging. With a last minute change to plans, we had to start from scratch to get a suitable tour for the team at short notice. Our trusted coastal tour base in Sussex was the venue, and head-coach Steve Pratley's comments sum up the tour very well.

The Sussex Tour base was a lovely location and a huge improvement from the original site we were going to in Kent. The boys had a fantastic experience and were looked after brilliantly by our hosting Rugby clubs.
The raft building was great fun and we had warm sunny weather to make the weekend even more memorable. The accomodation was perfect for our team and the boys were able to bond together and enjoy their weekend.
Overall a great time was had by all and winning the trophy on the last day was a fantastic end to a hard season

Wymondham RFC U13 Tour to London

Wymondham RFC U13 Tour to London

Wymondham RFC from Norfolk are our oldest client. We have been fortunate to take their Mini's on tour for five years now, and as their teams venture into Youth Rugby, we are always happy to add to their tour experiences with new destinations. In 2015, London was a new one for us as a standalone destination. Wymondham RFC U13 stayed in the shadows of St Pauls Cathderal, had very tough games at Old Albanians RFC and Bishops Stortford RFC, tackled the Mountain Bike trails at London's 2012 Olympic Park and partook in a matchday experience at Saracens during their match with Leicester Tigers. A great tour and some wonderful feedback.

"Having been given the unenviable task to organise a tour for 18 boys and their dads, filled me with dread.  However I shouldn't have worried as Sky High Sports took the stress away from me.  The tour weekend couldn't have been better and everything worked like clockwork. The teams that the boys played against were of equal competitive standard, the accommodation was great value for money and the dads loved being able to  venture into the City in the evenings.  The mountain biking was an unforgettable experience for everyone and definitely helped cure some hangovers and the boys pre-match experience at Allianz Park will be with them for a long time.  Overall the tour was superb and couldn't have asked for more!  Fab job Richie!"
